Mayor & City Council
Fitchburg is governed by a Mayor and eight Common Council members. The City has four districts and each district has two Council Representatives. The Mayor serves a three-year term and Alders serve two-year staggered terms. The Mayor and Council oversee City Departments, which are managed by the City Administrator who is appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Common Council.
Council Meetings
The Common Council meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The meetings are held in the Frances Huntley-Cooper Council Chambers located at 5520 Lacy Road. Find Common Council agendas.
Accessing Meeting Agendas
To keep the public informed, meeting agendas are posted at City Hall and online several days before each meeting. Meeting agendas are located on the City’s website. By reviewing the agendas, you can stay up to date on the topics that will be discussed and make informed contributions during public participation opportunities. You can also sign-up for City announcements, including notifications of newly posted agendas by using the Notify Me feature on the website. This feature allows you to receive City announcements and agendas by text or email.
Get Involved
We value community engagement and encourage you to participate in the democratic process. Attending City Council meetings, staying informed about agenda topics, and sharing your thoughts and concerns with your elected officials are all important ways to make your voice heard and to contribute to the decision-making process.
