The method used for repairs and maintenance is determined by the condition of the existing road and other engineering considerations. Maintenance is performed regularly.

Resurfacing includes pulverizing the existing asphalt surface and relaying a new layer of asphalt.

In chip sealing, a thin layer of asphalt is applied to the road surface, followed by an aggregate cover. Chip sealing increases pavement life, provides a waterproof seal, and improves traction.
