Housing Crisis:  The Need is REAL!

Housing affordability and lack of inventory of housing options has been on the forefront of discussions on a national, state, regional and local level.  In an effort to work on addressing housing in Fitchburg, staff requested funding to complete a housing plan in 2019, with a focus on affordability.

In February of 2019, the City of Fitchburg Common Council approved the Fitchburg Housing Plan Goals, Strategies, and Implementation Toolkit as the City works to address housing affordability.  The plan will be used to inform the update of the City's Comprehensive Plan and to guide various housing-related initiatives and goals.  As noted in the plan, to achieve the goals identified in the plan will take work by several community and private partnerships.

Since the closure of TID's 4, 6, 7 and 15 provided $9.4 million in funding to capitalize an Affordable Housing Fund the goal is to provide our residents with current programs that are accessible to our community.
